Job summary

Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA is seeking a Medical Lab Technician for the Special Hematology Lab to perform complex tests on blood, body fluids, cells and tissues, including cross matching for transfusion and cellular therapies.

The role requires an associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology and certification eligibility; ASCP/AMT/ACHI or equivalent, with certification to be obtained within 18 months.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology or an equivalent credential with eligibility for certification exam.
• Certification eligibility within 18 months of employment for MLT role (ASCP/AMT/ACHI or equivalent).
• Demonstrated ability to perform complex tests on blood, body fluids, cells and tissues.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex laboratory tests on blood, body fluids, cells, and tissues.
• Identify bacteria, parasites, and other microorganisms; analyze chemical content of fluids.
• Cross match blood for transfusion and support transplantation testing; aseptically prepare cells for cellular therapies.
