Job summary

Penn State Health - Hershey Medical Center is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist I for the Automated Testing Lab. The role is part-time, 0.50 FTE, evening shift, with a $2.00/hour evening differential.

The position involves performing complex tests on blood, body fluids, and tissues, identifying microorganisms, crossmatching for transfusion, and preparing cells for cellular therapies. Certification eligibility must be pursued within 18 months of hire.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required, or an Associate degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory or equivalent education may be substituted for a Bachelor's.
• If not certified, must be eligible for ASCP, AMT or equivalent board certification exam and certified within 18 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex laboratory tests on blood, body fluids, cells, and tissues.
• Identify bacteria, parasites, and other microorganisms, analyze chemical content of fluids, cross match blood for transfusion and organ transplantation, aseptically prepare cells for use in cellular therapies.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Responsible to perform complex laboratory tests on blood, body fluids, cells, and tissues. Identify bacteria, parasites, and other microorganisms, analyze chemical content of fluids, cross match blood for transfusion and organ transplantation, aseptically prepare cells for use in cellular therapies. The results of these tests are used in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

• Bachelor’s Degree or if currently certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or a Medical Technologist, an Associate degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory or equivalent education and training may be substituted for a Bachelors.
• If not currently certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or a Medical Technologists, must be eligible for the ASCP, AMT or equivalent board certification exam and must be Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist certified within 18 months of hire.
