Job summary

Penn State Health Milton Hershey Medical Center is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist I for the Special Hematology Lab in Hershey, PA. You will perform complex tests on blood and body fluids, identify microorganisms, and assist in cellular therapies.

Responsibilities include cross-matching for transfusion and organ transplantation, with opportunities for professional development within a Magnet-designated academic medical center environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required; substitution allowed with an Associate degree if MLS/MT certified.
• Eligible for ASCP, AMT or equivalent board certification within 18 months of hire.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Responsible to perform complex laboratory tests on blood, body fluids, cells, and tissues. Identify bacteria, parasites, and other microorganisms, analyze chemical content of fluids, cross match blood for transfusion and organ transplantation, aseptically prepare cells for use in cellular therapies. The results of these tests are used in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

• Bachelor’s Degree or if currently certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or a Medical Technologist, an Associate degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory or equivalent education and training may be substituted for a Bachelors.

• If not currently certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or a Medical Technologists, must be eligible for the ASCP, AMT or equivalent board certification exam and must be Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist certified within 18 months of hire.
