Job summary

YES Prep Public Schools in Houston is hiring a Special Education Teaching Assistant for a 10-month term. This role supports both Special Education and General Education teachers, monitors student progress, and provides one-on-one support to students with significant needs to help meet IEP goals.

The position requires a High School Diploma or GED, at least 30 college hours, and an Educational Aide certification or willingness to obtain TEA certification.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum of 30 semester hours of college or post-secondary education credit.
• Current Educational Aide certification, or willingness to acquire from the TEA.
• Interest in working one-on-one with a student with significant needs, including medical needs.
• Ability to physically assist students with self-help, mobility, academic, and behavioral skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist Special Education and General Education teachers with supervising students in all instructional settings.
• Model and reinforce positive behavior and classroom management techniques.
• Maintain data as identified by teachers, IEP goals, and Behavior Intervention Plans.
• Tailor lessons to meet individual students’ needs.
• Assist in lesson planning and reinforce learning concepts.
• Support students in self-help and academic tasks; provide one-to-one support as needed.
• Provide personal care services for students as needed and perform related duties.
• Assist with administration and scoring of tests and assignments.
