Job summary

YES Prep Public Schools in Houston, TX is seeking a Special Education Teaching Assistant for a 10-month, hourly role. The position supports both Special and General Education teachers, with duties including behavior management, data maintenance, and tailored instruction for students with significant needs.

Responsibilities include one-to-one support, assisting with lesson plans, administering tests, and providing personal care as needed.

Qualifications

• Must have High School Diploma or GED.
• Must have at least 30 semester hours of college credit.
• Current Educational Aide certification or willingness to obtain TEA Educational Aide Certification.
• Interest in working one-on-one with a student with significant needs, including medical needs.
• Ability to physically assist students with self-help, mobility, academic, and behavioral skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist Special Education and General Education teachers with supervising students in all instructional settings.
• Assist with behavior management by modeling and reinforcing desired behaviors.
• Maintain data aligned to IEP goals and Behavior Intervention Plans.
• Tailor lessons to meet individual student needs.
• Support teachers with lesson plans and reinforce concepts.
• Assist students in performing self-help and academic skills.
• Provide one-to-one full-time support for a student with significant needs.
• Assist with administration and scoring of tests and work assignments.
• Support implementation of accommodations and/or modifications.
• Adapt activities and materials to meet classroom objectives.
• Monitor students during transitions inside and outside the classroom.
• Provide personal care services for students as needed.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
