Job summary

Wake County Public School System is seeking an Instructional Assistant-Special Education to support students with disabilities across elementary, middle, or high school settings. You will assist with implementing IEPs, monitor student safety, and help teachers manage classroom activities.

The position requires a high school diploma, CPI training, and ability to work in a team in a fast-paced school environment. The role is nonexempt, Monday–Friday, with occasional evenings or weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• ESSA Title I: six semester hours in early childhood education, or two years of early childhood work experience.
• Maintain CPI certification and renewal as needed; CPI training provided by WCPSS.

Responsibilities

• Supports teachers in coordinating instructional programs for special education students.
• Assists with implementing student behavioral intervention plans and classroom procedures.
• Prepares materials and ensures accessibility per lesson plan requirements.
• Maintains confidentiality and accurate documentation of records.
• Assists with transitions and mobility needs, including health-related tasks as required.
• Supports assistive technology and augmentative communication devices in the classroom.
• Participates in district staff development and ongoing professional growth.
