Job summary

Wake County Public School System is seeking an Instructional Assistant-Special Education to support students with disabilities across elementary, middle, or high schools. The role aligns with IEP goals and classroom objectives, under supervision of licensed staff.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, CPI certification preferred or provided by WCPSS, and ability to support diverse learners. The position is Monday–Friday, on-site at school sites in Wake County.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• CPI certification (training provided by WCPSS).
• Experience with students with disabilities preferred.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Apps.
• Ability to protect confidentiality per FERPA.
• Ability to work in a team and communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

• Provides support and assistance to teachers in coordinating instructional programs for special education students, including familiarity with students' IEPs; ensures a safe learning environment.
• Assists teachers with strategies related to behavioral intervention plans.
• Aids teachers with planning and organizing, evaluating instructional activities, developing classroom procedures, and preparing materials.
• Demonstrates professional and technical skills to support student achievement and the school program.
• Maintains a positive disposition and exercises good judgment when dealing with students.
• Provides in-class support while promoting progress towards independence for all students.
• Assists teachers with implementation of assistive technology and AAC devices to meet class-wide and individual needs.
• Compiles and maintains reports and documents with confidentiality.
• Participates in district staff development and professional growth in the area of assignment.
• Coordinates and facilitates student transitions between classes and assists with health care needs for students.
