Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support instructional activities for students with disabilities under the supervision of a Special Education teacher. The role includes one-on-one tutoring, assisting with daily living skills, and helping prepare materials and document behavior.

Applicants should have knowledge of IEPs, and CPR training is desirable. A minimum of 60 college hours or a paraprofessional exam is required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of characteristics of students with various disabilities.
• Strong English grammar and spelling.
• Ability to work with students ages birth to 21 with various disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist in instruction of students with disabilities per IEP.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and personal hygiene support as needed.
• Assist with daily living skills and use of assistive devices in classroom.
• Maintain behavior records and assist with class field trips.
