Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support students with disabilities under the supervision of a Special Education teacher. The role includes one-on-one tutoring, personal hygiene assistance, and helping with daily living skills in classroom and during activities.

CPR training is highly desirable; applicants must have a valid ISBE paraprofessional license or be eligible.

Qualifications

• Certification requirements: valid ISBE paraprofessional license or eligible via 60 college credits or paraprofessional exam.
• Knowledge, abilities and skill: good knowledge of disabilities and English basics.
• Ability to work with students aged birth to 21 with various disabilities; CPR training desirable.
• Good oral and written communication and ability to operate basic classroom equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in instruction of students with disabilities under supervision.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and personal hygiene assistance.
• Assist with daily living skills and accompany students on field trips and to clinics.
• Take notes, track behavior, and maintain records; support teachers and students in class.
