Job summary

Chicago Public Schools seeks a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support teachers and students with disabilities. You will reinforce instruction, provide one-on-one help, assist with daily living tasks, and help maintain records under the supervision of a licensed teacher.

Requirements include a valid ISBE paraprofessional license (60 college credits or passing Work Keys/Parapro) and the ability to work with students aged birth to 21. CPR training is preferred.

Qualifications

• Good knowledge of the characteristics of students with various disabilities.
• Good knowledge of English grammar and spelling.
• Good knowledge of basic mathematics.
• Ability to work with and for students with various disabilities aged birth to 21 and to follow written/oral instructions.
• CPR training is desirable; if not present, will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Assist Special Education teachers in reinforcing instruction for students with various disabilities.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and personal hygiene support as needed.
• Assist students with mobility and daily living skills, and with classroom tools and equipment.
• Take notes in class for students who cannot take notes themselves.
• Attend class field trips and participate in trainings to update skills.
