Job summary

Chicago Public Schools seeks a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support teaching staff in the North/Northwest Side elementary school setting. You will reinforce learning for students with diverse disabilities, provide one-on-one tutoring, and assist with daily living tasks as needed.

The role requires a valid ISBE paraprofessional license (60 college hours or approved exam) and strong communication. Training in CPR is highly desirable or will be provided.

Qualifications

• Must possess ISBE paraprofessional license or have completed a paraprofessional exam (Work Keys or Parapro).
• Knowledge of students with various disabilities; strong English grammar and basic math.
• Ability to work with students aged birth to 21 and follow written/oral instructions; CPR training desirable or required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in instruction for students with disabilities and reinforce learning concepts.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and personal hygiene support as needed.
• Assist with daily living skills, positioning, feeding, and note taking.
• Maintain written behavior records and accompany students on trips.
• Participate in workshops and in‑service training to update job skills.
