Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support teachers in elementary and high schools. You will reinforce instruction for students with disabilities, assist with daily living activities, and help maintain classroom records.

Must have a valid ISBE paraprofessional license or eligibility (60 college hours or approved paraprofessional exam). CPR training is highly desirable; training may be provided.

Qualifications

• Valid paraprofessional license or eligibility with 60 college hours or paraprofessional exam.
• Ability to work with students with various disabilities and ages birth to 21.
• Basic written reports and communication skills; CPR training desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist in instruction and reinforce learning for students with disabilities.
• Lift and position non-ambulatory students per teacher instructions.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and personal hygiene assistance.
• Assist with daily living skills and accompany to pools or clinics.
• Take notes, correct homework, and maintain behavior records.
• Prepare for field trips and participate in trainings.
