Job summary

Spectrum Schools is seeking an Instructional Aide to join our Special Education team, providing personalized support and supervision for students in grades K-12. You will collaborate with classroom educators to implement IEPs and tailor instruction to each learner’s needs in both classroom and community settings.

You will assist with delivering engaging instruction, monitoring progress, and documenting student performance while maintaining confidentiality and complying with school policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with passage of basic skills test.
• Associate degree or higher in education or a closely related field preferred.
• Hold currently or ability to obtain a state driver’s license.
• Ability to obtain and maintain crisis management training certification.
• Paraprofessional, paraeducator, teaching assistant credential preferred.
• Prior experience working with children, preferably in an alternative, special education and/or behavioral health program setting.
• Knowledge of working with children with learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, emotional behavioral disorders and/or other related disabilities.
• Comfortable driving and/or riding in a company van with students.
• Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency and make independent decisions.
• Proficiency in motivation and having critical conversations with students to move toward goals.
• Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making ability.
• Knowledge of technology including Microsoft Office, database entry, and basic office equipment.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with teachers to cultivate a supportive, welcoming learning environment.
• Implement engaging, individualized instruction and behavioral interventions.
• Instruct and monitor students during lessons and apply targeted strategies.
• Track progress and communicate with teachers about successes and needs.
• Manage student behavior and enforce school policies.
• Support students in developing community, vocational, leisure, and social skills.
• Document student behaviors and performance; report observations and recommendations.
• Prepare behavioral reports and daily activity logs.
• Communicate with students, families, and staff about needs and achievements.
• Maintain confidentiality of student records.
• Participate in accreditation activities and meetings to support outcomes.
• Attend school-wide and parent meetings to foster collaboration.
• Respond to feedback and pursue professional growth.
• Perform additional duties to support student success.
