Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support teachers in implementing IEPs for students with various disabilities. Under the supervision of a Special Education teacher, you will assist with instruction, provide one-on-one tutoring, assist with daily living skills, feeding, hygiene, and accompany students to swimming pools and clinics as needed.

Qualifications

• Certification: Valid TASN paraprofessional license or 60 college credits plus paraprofessional exam where required.
• Knowledge: Good knowledge of disabilities, English grammar and basic math.
• Ability: Follow written and oral instructions; maintain basic written reports; CPR training is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist Special Education teachers in elementary and high schools in reinforcing instruction for students with disabilities.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and personal hygiene assistance for students as needed.
• Assist with daily living skills, feeding, and positioning of students.
• Escort students to pools, clinics, and field trips; supervise and support learning activities.
• Document student behavior and assist with record-keeping and class notes.
