Job summary

Chicago Public Schools in Chicago is seeking a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support students with disabilities under the guidance of a classroom teacher.

The role involves one-on-one tutoring, personal hygiene assistance, positioning and mobility support, feeding, and helping students develop daily living skills, in line with each student’s IEP.

Candidates must hold a valid TASN paraprofessional license (ISBE) or have completed 60 college hours; CPR training is highly desirable.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid TASN (NCLB) paraprofessional license from ISBE or have completed 60 college hours or paraprofessional exam.
• Ability to work with students with various disabilities ages birth to 21.
• Good written and oral communication skills; ability to maintain records.

Responsibilities

• Assist Special Education teachers in reinforcing learning concepts with students with disabilities.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and personal hygiene services as needed.
• Assist in daily living skills and mobility, feeding, and positioning.
• Maintain written records of student behavior and accompany students on field trips.
• Participate in trainings and workshops to update job-related skills.
