Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking an experienced engineer to lead the design, development, and testing of second-stage fluid systems for the New Glenn vehicle. You will guide thermo-fluid modeling, component specifications, and system integration while solving challenges in high-pressure, cryogenic environments.

Role requires hands-on design and collaboration across teams, with emphasis on rigorous analysis, testing, and vendor management to deliver flight-worthy hardware.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in engineering or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of experience with spacecraft or launch-vehicle fluid-system component design or test.
  • Experience with aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicles in the detail design of aerospace or equivalent fluid systems and components.
  • Solid understanding of fluid components such as valves, pressure vessels, flex elements, and fittings.
  • Knowledge of fabrication, integration processes, and quality control for tubes, piping, and machined components.
  • Working knowledge of materials and treatments.
  • Experience troubleshooting fluid hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Design and route complex fluid subsystems (pressurization, pneumatics, propellant utilization).
  • Apply strong understanding of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics.
  • Work with fluid components such as solenoid valves, pneumatic valves, regulators, pressure vessels, and instrumentation.
  • Author component specifications and manage suppliers through design, development, qualification, and delivery of flight hardware.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure systems integration and resolve issues with calculated risk.
  • Lead and participate in component and system-level testing and data analysis.
  • Apply project-management skills—including vendor management, scheduling, and budget tracking.
  • Use REFPROP, SINDA/FLUINT, Thermal Desktop, or other fluid-modeling software.
  • Use 3D-CAD programs (Creo preferred) and finite-element-analysis (ANSYS preferred).
  • Deliver completed designs using best drafting practices per ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards and provide clear, well-documented analysis reports.
