Job summary

ACT Power Services in the United States is seeking a Solar Field Service Technician to support safe, productive on-site maintenance of solar PV plants. You will assist with preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs across modules, trackers, and inverters while upholding safety standards and log data for reporting.

This field-based role requires travel up to ~20%, on-call availability, and opportunities for training in electrical theory, HV/MV systems, and industry practices.

Qualifications

  • 6 months to 1 year of relevant field experience in solar, electrical, or a related technical/mechanical trade; or successful completion of ACT's Apprentice program
  • QEW sign-off or ability to obtain sign-off within onboarding period
  • OSHA 10 General Industry certification, or ability to obtain within the first 90 days
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret drawings, including identification of fuses, breakers, switches, power sources, and major BoS equipment
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to take direction and complete tasks
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Must have the ability to travel around 20% and work on-call during off-shift hours and weekends as needed
  • FAA Part 107 certification, a Technical Writing course, and ACT High Voltage/Medium Voltage training completed or in progress

Responsibilities

  • Uphold a high level of safety standards in everything that you do
  • Assist in and support routine preventive maintenance, service, troubleshooting, and repair of solar photovoltaic facilities, including inverter maintenance and repairs
  • Perform string-level troubleshooting and repairs, tracker inspections, and basic maintenance support
  • Conduct routine vegetation and site equipment inspections, including monthly inspections
  • Clean or replace damaged components as directed
  • Apply fundamental knowledge of NEC code, electrical theory, and industry best practices, with continuing education as assigned
  • Perform basic electrical testing (IR, continuity, grounding, voltage) under supervision
  • Responsible for dispatching and remediation efforts on repairs under 50V
  • Maintain company property such as vehicles, tools, meters, and plant stock
  • Maintain service reports, inspection documentation, safety paperwork, and spare parts inventory; log data into Fiix, TrueContext, Deputy, and ACT SharePoint
  • Conduct and log vehicle inspections on time
  • Initiate warranty claims with equipment vendors/OEMs as needed
  • Identify safety hazards and take appropriate action to remove or eliminate hazards
  • Conduct pre-job brief analysis
  • Actively participate in the Good Catch Program and BBSO observations
  • Attend maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical writing training as assigned
