The AES Clean Energy Field Operations team seeks a Solar & BESS Technician II. This role ensures AES CE exceeds industry standards in operations and maintenance. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, capable of following directions from Field Service leads, with opportunities for professional growth as AES CE expands.

This position reports to our site in Long Beach.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Manage O&M activities at Energy Storage sites and substations, including utility-scale and distribution-scale storage.
2. Perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance on equipment such as inverters, transformers, battery modules, and collection and distribution systems.
3. Assist with routine maintenance tasks like electrical troubleshooting, instrumentation calibration, and inverter repairs.
4. Prepare and execute switching of HV, MV, and LV equipment.
5. Understand and follow procedures for equipment clearance (LOTO), including safety permits.
6. Operate electrical and mechanical power plant systems.
7. Participate in training, which may include limited travel.
8. Support technical and administrative duties related to power plant operations and maintenance.
9. Assist with vegetation management, including operating tractors and mowers.
10. Contribute to documentation such as plant orders, procedures, and instructions.
11. Operate BESS facilities in compliance with NERC standards and report as required.
12. Ensure work complies with environmental and safety standards.
13. Perform tasks independently or in teams, based on skills and experience.
14. Demonstrate emotional intelligence and teamwork.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

1. Knowledge of workplace safety standards, including LOTO and electrical safety.
2. Experience with electrical systems and basic safety principles.
3. Proficiency with computers, SCADA, and maintenance management systems.
4. Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
5. High energy, work ethic, and meticulousness.
6. Technical skills in electrical or mechanical systems.
7. Fluency in English; Spanish and Portuguese are a plus.
8. Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.

Education and Experience:

1. High school diploma or GED.
2. Technical degree, Solar certification, Energy Storage Certification (preferred).
3. At least 3 years of power plant experience.
4. Experience with energy storage system installation (preferred).
5. Basic knowledge of electrical/mechanical fundamentals and control devices.

Working Conditions:
