The AES Clean Energy Field Operations team seeks a Solar & BESS Technician II. This role ensures AES CE exceeds industry standards in operations and maintenance. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, capable of following directions from Field Service leads, with opportunities for professional growth as AES CE expands.
This position reports to our site in Long Beach.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage O&M activities at Energy Storage sites and substations, including utility-scale and distribution-scale storage.
- Perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance on equipment such as inverters, transformers, battery modules, and collection and distribution systems.
- Assist with routine maintenance tasks like electrical troubleshooting, instrumentation calibration, and inverter repairs.
- Prepare and execute switching of HV, MV, and LV equipment.
- Understand and follow procedures for equipment clearance (LOTO), including safety permits.
- Operate electrical and mechanical power plant systems.
- Participate in training, which may include limited travel.
- Support technical and administrative duties related to power plant operations and maintenance.
- Assist with vegetation management, including operating tractors and mowers.
- Contribute to documentation such as plant orders, procedures, and instructions.
- Operate BESS facilities in compliance with NERC standards and report as required.
- Ensure work complies with environmental and safety standards.
- Perform tasks independently or in teams, based on skills and experience.
- Demonstrate emotional intelligence and teamwork.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
- Knowledge of workplace safety standards, including LOTO and electrical safety.
- Experience with electrical systems and basic safety principles.
- Proficiency with computers, SCADA, and maintenance management systems.

- Technical skills in electrical or mechanical systems.
- Fluency in English; Spanish and Portuguese are a plus.

Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Technical degree, Solar certification, Energy Storage Certification (preferred).
- At least 3 years of power plant experience.
- Experience with energy storage system installation (preferred).
- Basic knowledge of electrical/mechanical fundamentals and control devices.
Working Conditions:
