The AES Clean Energy Field Operations team seeks a Solar & BESS Technician II. This role is vital in ensuring AES CE operates beyond industry standards. The ideal candidate is a self-starter capable of following guidance from Field Service leads. As AES CE expands to become a top IPP, this position offers significant growth opportunities.

This role reports to our site in Long Beach.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Manage assigned O&M activities at Energy Storage sites and substations.
2. Assist with maintenance and operations of equipment such as inverters, transformers, battery modules, and collection systems.
3. Perform electrical troubleshooting, instrumentation calibration, and basic inverter repairs.
4. Prepare and execute switching of HV, MV, and LV equipment.
5. Follow safety procedures including LOTO and permit systems.
6. Operate electrical and mechanical power plant systems.
7. Participate in training, possibly involving travel.
8. Handle technical and administrative duties related to plant operation and maintenance.
9. Assist with vegetation management, including operating maintenance equipment.
10. Contribute to documentation such as Plant Orders and Operating Instructions.
11. Operate BESS facilities in compliance with NERC standards.
12. Ensure safety and environmental standards are met.
13. Work independently or in teams based on skills and experience.
14. Demonstrate emotional intelligence and teamwork.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

• Knowledge of safety standards and electrical systems.
• Proficiency with computers, SCADA, and maintenance systems.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and technical skills.
• Fluent in English; Spanish and Portuguese are a plus.
• Understanding of safety and environmental regulations.
• Proactive problem-solving attitude.
• Commitment to professional growth and positive workplace relationships.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Technical degree, Solar and Energy Storage Certifications preferred.
• At least 3 years’ experience in a power plant.
• Experience with energy storage systems advantageous.
• Basic electrical or mechanical knowledge is a plus.

Working Conditions:

• Work outdoors in various environmental conditions, possibly at heights.
• Physical activity including standing, climbing, and lifting.
• Use of personal protective equipment required.
• Potential exposure to hazardous materials and energized equipment.
• Overtime and non-standard hours may be required.
