AES Clean Energy Field Operations - Solar & BESS Technician II

This role reports to our site in Long Beach and involves ensuring AES CE operates its portfolio to industry-leading standards. The ideal candidate is a self-starter capable of following directions from Field Service leads and seeking professional growth as AES becomes a top IPP.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Manage assigned O&M activities at Energy Storage sites and substations.
2. Perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance on equipment including inverters, transformers, battery modules, and collection systems.
3. Assist with routine electrical troubleshooting, calibration, and repairs.
4. Prepare and execute switching of HV, MV, and LV equipment.
5. Follow safety procedures including LOTO and permit systems.
6. Operate power plant systems and participate in training.
7. Assist with administrative duties, plant orders, and procedures.
8. Operate BESS facilities in compliance with NERC standards.
9. Perform work independently or in teams, demonstrating emotional intelligence and collaboration.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

• Strong safety awareness and electrical system experience.
• Proficiency with computers, SCADA, and maintenance systems.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Technical skills in electrical/mechanical fundamentals.
• Fluency in English; Spanish and Portuguese are a plus.
• Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
• Proactive problem-solving and continuous learning mindset.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or GED; technical or renewable energy certifications preferred.
• 3+ years in a power plant environment; experience with energy storage is a plus.
• Basic electrical or mechanical knowledge.

Working Conditions:

• Work outdoors in various weather conditions and at heights.
• Physical activities including standing, climbing, and lifting.
• Use of PPE required; potential exposure to hazardous materials.
• Occasional overtime and non-standard hours.
