The AES Clean Energy Field Operations team seeks a BESS Technician with Preventative & Corrective maintenance experience. This role is crucial in ensuring AES CE exceeds industry standards across our portfolio. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, able to follow directions from the Team Leader and Regional Manager. As AES CE grows, this role offers significant professional growth opportunities and will be based at sites in Alamitos BESS I and II, Long Beach, CA. Candidates must reside near Long Beach and be able to commute daily.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Manage assigned O&M activities at Energy Storage sites and substations related to utility-scale and distribution-scale energy storage.
2. Perform/assist with corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance on equipment such as inverters, transformers, battery modules, DC collection, and AC distribution systems.
3. Conduct routine electrical troubleshooting, calibration, and basic inverter repairs as directed.
4. Prepare and execute switching procedures for HV, MV, and LV equipment.
5. Follow safety protocols including LOTO, Job Safety Analysis, Work Authorization, Confined Space, and Hot Work permits.
6. Operate electrical and mechanical power plant systems.
7. Participate in required training, which may include travel.
8. Operate BESS facilities in compliance with NERC standards and report as required.
9. Support technical and administrative tasks related to plant operation and maintenance.
10. Assist with documentation such as Plant Orders, Procedures, and Operating Instructions.
11. Ensure all work complies with environmental and safety standards.
12. Work independently or in teams, depending on skills and experience.
13. Demonstrate emotional intelligence and teamwork.

• Experience with electrical systems, safety principles, LOTO, and electrical safety.
• Proficiency with computers, SCADA, and Maintenance Management Systems.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in energy storage system installation (preferred).
• Basic electrical or mechanical skills, including control circuits and operational characteristics of power equipment, are a plus.

Working Conditions:

• Work outdoors in various environmental conditions, possibly at heights.
• Require standing, walking, climbing, and entering equipment areas.
• Use of PPE required.
• May work around rotating, energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals.
• Occasional lifting and other physical activities as needed.
• Work overtime, non-standard hours, and travel to other sites may be required.
• Respond to call-out work as necessary.
