Job summary

Husch Blackwell LLP is seeking a Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain the technical systems and data infrastructure powering insightful information experiences. You will shape architecture, performance, and reliability for web apps, collaborating with ID&E teams to deliver data stories and innovative UIs.

The role requires 5+ years in application engineering, strong full-stack skills, and the ability to integrate generative AI and cloud data services.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems) or equivalent knowledge.
5+ years of experience in application engineering, software development, or a closely related technical role.
Proficiency across the full web stack; backend depth; collaboration on UI architecture and component quality.
Experience designing and owning web application architecture for data-intensive or interactive applications.
Proficiency in one or more back-end languages (e.g., Python, Javascript, TypeScript) and familiarity with modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Vue).
Experience integrating generative AI capabilities into production or near-production applications, including working with LLM APIs and prompt-driven workflows.
Knowledge of data pipeline architecture, data APIs, and cloud data platform integration, with the ability to design the application layer that consumes and exposes that data.
Experience with cloud infrastructure and deployment practices (Azure preferred), including CI/CD, environment management, and application security.
Demonstrable knowledge of software architecture patterns, engineering best practices, and security principles for enterprise environments.
Familiarity with XR, spatial computing, or AI-assisted interfaces, or a willingness to learn rapidly in related domains.
Interdisciplinary experience or curiosity bringing a distinctive perspective to information design and emerging interface technologies.
Demonstrable ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

Architect, build, and maintain web application infrastructure and data systems supporting interactive, narrative-driven experiences.
Own application-layer standards, including code quality, design patterns, deployment practices, and performance benchmarks.
Collaborate with Information Engineers, designers, and data scientists to deliver engaging data stories and UI components.
Write production-quality code across the full stack, emphasizing back-end services, data APIs, and infrastructure.
Lead evaluation and deployment of generative AI capabilities within web apps and information systems.
Prototype architectures for emerging interfaces including XR and AI-assisted user experiences.
Ensure reliability, security, accessibility, and scalability across ID&E systems.
Research new technologies and architectural approaches to advance the team's capabilities.
Document technical standards and best practices for application engineering within ID&E.
Partner with Information Engineers on front-end concerns, guiding design system implementation and UI quality.
Engage in continuous learning focused on emerging technologies for ID&E's R&D agenda.
