Job summary

Siemens invites interns to join the Smart Building team to gain hands-on experience in HVAC controls and building automation. You will shadow technicians, assist with installations, testing, and commissioning in commercial environments, and engage with project management to ensure smooth hand-offs.

This paid internship emphasizes safety, learning, and customer collaboration. You will work onsite at the Des Moines area or Kansas City/Omaha locations, with start dates in May or June.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Pursuing degree in HVAC Controls, Building Automation, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering/Technology, Energy/Sustainability, or related program at a 2-year technical program.
• Availability to work 40 hours per week for a 10-week program (May–July or June–August).
• Willing to work onsite at the location and surrounding area with no relocation stipend.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
• Hands-on role requiring use of tools and mobile devices to review programs and troubleshoot building systems.

Responsibilities

• Spend most time on job sites with Siemens technicians learning installation, programming, and service of HVAC automation systems.
• Collaborate with sales to understand customer needs and improve building performance and safety.
• Rotate through service and project delivery teams to understand installation to maintenance workflows.
• Assist in diagnosing issues, performing maintenance, and supporting new installations and system commissioning.
• Document service activities and explain system operations to customers; discuss upgrades or enhancements.
