Aerotek in Wilsonville, OR is seeking a General Production Worker to support the paint prep process, preparing metal parts for coating and finishing.

You will perform sanding, masking, grinding, and material handling, with initial training on day shift before moving to swing shift.

Job Title: General Production Worker – Paint Prep

Job Description

This role supports the paint department by preparing metal parts for coating and finishing, ensuring high-quality products are ready for shipment. You will perform a variety of production tasks including sanding, masking, material handling, and assisting with painting operations. Initial training typically occurs on day shift for 1–2 weeks before transitioning to swing shift.

Responsibilities

• Prepare metal surfaces for coating by using power grinders and sanders to remove rust, scale, and weld splatter.
• Set up parts for painting by hanging items on racks and placing large items on carts or fixtures.
• Move parts to drying areas and prepare them for additional painting steps or assembly.
• Wash parts and mask areas that must not be painted to ensure clean lines and proper coverage.
• Mix polyurethane and epoxy coating materials with reducers, thinners, and hardeners to the correct ratios.
• Assist with painting finished products before they are shipped to customers, following established quality standards.
• Perform general labor duties including cleaning work areas, handling materials, and prepping fabricated components for the paint department.
• Use hand and power tools safely and effectively for grinding, sanding, and other finishing tasks.
• Support overall production workflow by moving parts, organizing materials, and helping maintain an efficient paint prep process.

Essential Skills

• Experience using hand tools and power tools in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
• Industrial manufacturing experience, including familiarity with production environments and processes.
• Grinding experience on metal parts using appropriate tools and equipment.
• Ability to perform sanding, masking, and metal finishing tasks accurately and consistently.
• Capability to handle material movement and general labor duties in a production environment.
• Basic understanding of paint preparation for fabricated components, including surface cleaning and part setup.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a paint prep or paint department environment is beneficial.
• Comfort working with polyurethane and epoxy coating materials, including mixing to specified ratios.
• Background in general production, metal finishing, or fabrication support.
• Ability to learn and follow detailed work instructions and safety procedures.
• Strong attention to detail to ensure proper masking, surface preparation, and part handling.

Work Environment

This position is based in an industrial shop environment with open bay doors serving the fabrication department. You will work around metal fabrication, paint prep, and production activities, using hand and power tools, grinders, sanders, and other equipment typical of a manufacturing facility. Training is generally provided on day shift, Monday through Friday, from 5:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., with possible flexibility to start at 7:00 a.m. and work until 3:45 p.m. After training, the role moves to swing shift, Monday through Thursday, from 3:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., with a shift differential applied. The environment is active and physical, with regular material handling and movement of parts through various prep and drying areas.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wilsonville, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
