Job summary

The Village for Families & Children in Hartford, CT is seeking a Shift Supervisor to oversee on-site program operations for a 24-bed residential youth facility. You will coordinate staffing, monitor admissions and daily activities, and maintain a calm, therapeutic environment with trauma-informed approaches.

The role requires a high school diploma, a valid driver’s license, and experience in human services or with youth who have experienced trauma; a two-year or four-year degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; degree preferred
• Experience in human services or working with children with special needs preferred
• Knowledge of child development and trauma impact
• Ability to work on a multidisciplinary team
• Strong cultural competence and ability to work with diverse populations
• Ability to remain calm and respond safely in crisis situations
• Physically able to supervise children including physical interventions when necessary (with/without accommodation)

Responsibilities

• Coordinate shift operations: staffing, scheduling, assignments and equipment
• Monitor daily program activities including admissions, discharges, transportation and school transitions
• Maintain supervisory presence; coach, mentor, train, and support staff with therapeutic interactions
• Respond to crises by coordinating emergency responses and shift leadership
• Ensure compliance with policies, safety protocols and regulatory standards
• Conduct regular safety/environmental checks and monitor staff performance
• Oversee client care activities and documentation; ensure program readiness for next shift
• Promote a safe, organized, and therapeutic environment for youth and staff
