Job summary

Potbelly Sandwich Shop is looking for an outgoing Shift Leader to manage and develop associates, ensuring outstanding product quality and customer service while driving sales and controlling costs per shift.

You will lead a team on shifts, uphold health/safety standards, and maintain efficient operations in a bustling setting, with opportunities for career growth and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• You are at least 18 years of age.
• A minimum of 1 year supervisory experience in a restaurant or retail environment preferred.
• Meet all Food Safety requirements within your state and obtain a Food Safety Certification.
• Friendly, customer-first mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Problem-solving willingness.
• Comfortable working in a bustling kitchen environment; knife skills are a plus.
• Must be able to manage allergens (peanuts, egg, dairy, gluten, soy, seafood, shellfish).
• Able to stand/walk for 8–9 hours; lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Illinois applicants note requirement to become food safety certified within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Lead team members on shifts, including task assignment and feedback.
• Ensure security procedures and back-of-house standards are followed.
• Count drawers and follow cash handling procedures.
• Prepare finished products (sandwiches, salads, soups, cookies, ice cream) efficiently.
• Comply with health and safety standards for food, cleanliness and safety.
• Restock food line, chips and cooler.
• Clean tables, counters, floors, bathrooms, kitchen and utensils; take out trash.
• Operate cash register and balance cash handling procedures.
• Handle customer complaints/issues effectively.
• Other duties as assigned.
