Description
Position Summary: Shift Leaders provide direct supervision and ensure all crew members work efficiently and effectively during their shift. They do not have a minimum hour requirement.
Primary Responsibilities
The following duties represent the majority of the role but are not all-inclusive:
- Adhere to restaurant performance standards, ensure crew members are actively working, regulate workflow, reassign crew as needed, support labor goals.
- Resolve guest concerns, determine if customer credit is necessary, document decisions appropriately.
- Meet guest needs by ensuring adequate preparation, accurate delivery times, timely table clearing, welcoming guests, and inviting them back.
- Maintain food safety and sanitation standards, including glove use, cleanliness, proper food storage, and sanitation of surfaces.
- Ensure crew compliance with uniform and safety guidelines, including footwear and hair restraints.
- Perform shift tasks such as cash handling, deposits, end-of-shift activities, and documenting unusual events.
- Ensure safety and security of crew, guests, products, and cash, including locking doors, setting alarms, and securing money and safes.
- Handle administrative tasks like scheduling, ordering, inventory, and reporting.
- Assist in training and developing crew members.

- Knowledge of operational procedures, health and safety regulations, workplace technology, POS systems, basic math, and crew management.
Experience/Education & Certifications
- Must pass the Mazzio’s Comp 1 Test before managing a shift.
- May require Food Handler’s permit, Sanitation Certification, or other permits/licenses based on local laws.
- Preferred valid driver’s license with insurance and a clean driving record.
Physical Demands
- Exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, 10 pounds constantly; work mostly standing, with walking and sitting as needed; shifts of 8-12 hours, including split shifts.
- Reaching, climbing, stooping, handling, lifting, carrying, standing, walking, pushing, pulling; requires punctual, reliable attendance; sense of taste for food quality assessment.
Working Conditions
- Primarily indoor environment; occasional exposure to heat, wet/humid conditions; frequent handwashing; operation of kitchen equipment.
Tools and Equipment
- Cash registers, calculators, computers, ovens, manuals, phones, and other standard kitchen and office tools.
