Job summary

Potbelly Sandwich Works in Illinois is seeking a Shift Leader to manage a fast-paced team and deliver outstanding product quality and customer service. You will lead shifts, develop associates, and help control costs while maintaining Potbelly values.

We offer competitive pay between $17.25 and $17.75 per hour plus digital tips, plus benefits and a flexible schedule. Applicants must be 18+, have supervisor experience, and pass food safety certification where required.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Minimum 1 year supervisory experience in a restaurant or retail environment preferred.
• Meet all state Food Safety requirements and obtain certification.
• Friendly, customer-first mindset for a fast-paced environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Enjoy problem-solving in a dynamic setting.
• Comfortable in a bustling kitchen; knife skills are a plus.
• Able to manage allergens (peanuts, eggs, dairy, gluten, soy, seafood, shellfish).
• Able to stand/walk 8–9 hours; lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Lead team members on shifts, assigning tasks and providing feedback.
• Ensure security procedures are followed.
• Maintain back-of-house procedural standards.
• Count drawers and follow cash handling procedures.
• Prepare quality finished products (sandwiches, salads, soups, cookies, etc.).
• Adhere to health and safety standards for food, cleanliness and safety.
• Restock food line, chips and cooler.
• Clean tables, counters, floors, bathrooms, kitchen and utensils; dispose of trash.
• Handle customer complaints/issues effectively.
• Other duties as assigned.
