Job summary

The People Concern in Lancaster, CA is hiring a Support Specialist to serve as the first point of contact for clients on a 3pm–11:30pm onsite shift. You will help with basic needs, monitor the living spaces, and support clients toward stability in a trauma-informed, respectful environment.

Qualifications

• High school/GED degree.
• Minimum one year of related work experience.
• Strong customer service skills and ability to handle difficult situations.
• Ability to work independently and think critically.
• Ability to communicate in a language other than English strongly preferred but not required.
• Professional demeanor and commitment to community empowerment.
• Familiarity with non-violent crisis intervention.
• Computer literacy and ability to use computerized database system.

Responsibilities

• Act as first point-of-contact for immediate client needs.
• Monitor and oversee the floor and communal areas to ensure safety and cleanliness.
• Be visible on the floor and actively engage with clients.
• Conduct regular facility walk-throughs.
• Create a supportive environment and help clients progress toward stability.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings.
• Oversee client cubicle/bed area maintenance.
• Facilitate client engagement activities.
• Complete incident reports and document in HMIS.
• Develop trusting client relationships using motivational interviewing and trauma-informed care.
• Intervene during crises to de-escalate situations.
• Work as part of a team to provide integrated care.
