Job summary

The People Concern is seeking a Support Specialist for the Lancaster Interim Housing program. This full-time, onsite role focuses on direct client contact, floor supervision, and trauma-informed service delivery in a busy shelter environment.

The position requires a high school diploma, at least one year of related work, and strong customer service skills. The shift runs Sunday to Thursday, 3pm–11:30pm, with comprehensive benefits and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• High school/GED degree required.
• Minimum one year of related experience.
• Effective customer service skills and ability to handle difficult situations.
• Ability to work independently and think critically.
• Professional demeanor regardless of circumstances.
• Commitment to empowering and dignifying the community.
• Familiarity with non-violent crisis intervention a plus.
• Familiarity with issues faced by population served.
• Self-motivation and ability to motivate others.
• Computer literacy; able to use a computerized database system.
• Team player.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Food Handlers, CPR and First Aid certs.

Responsibilities

• Act as the first point-of-contact for client needs (phone use, linens, water, etc.).
• Monitor and oversee the floor and communal areas to uphold guidelines and safety.
• Be visible on the floor and engage with clients.
• Conduct regular facility walk-throughs.
• Create a supportive environment to promote client stability.
• Attend staff meetings, trainings, and retreats as scheduled.
• Oversee client cubicle/bed area maintenance in a trauma-informed manner.
• Facilitate client engagement activities such as groups.
