Job summary

The Salvation Army's North and Central Illinois Division seeks a Shelter Aide to supervise clients in a shelter setting, ensuring safety, intake processing, and policy enforcement. You will document in HMIS, coordinate referrals, and support meal service while keeping the facility clean and secure.

Ideal candidates will have a High School Diploma or equivalent, with 1–3 years in shelter or related human services, and experience with trauma-informed care and confidential recordkeeping.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in human services, social work, psychology, criminal justice, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe and secure environment for clients; contact emergency responders as needed.
• Provide referrals and information on community programs.
• Enforce program guidelines, policies and procedures.
• Deescalate situations and apply conflict resolution techniques.
• Determine client eligibility and conduct initial intake/orientation.
• Record data in HMIS and maintain required forms and paperwork.
• Prepare and serve meals as required and maintain a clean facility.
• Monitor facility perimeter for safety and cleanliness.
• Attend staff meetings as scheduled.
