Job summary

The Salvation Army North and Central Illinois Division is seeking a Shelter Aide in Peoria to provide direct support and supervision for clients in a residential setting. Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate degree preferred.
• 1–3 years in shelter, residential, behavioral health, or related human services environment preferred.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care, de-escalation, conflict resolution, and crisis response procedures.
• Experience with confidential client records and HMIS experience preferred.
• Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment in emergencies, and maintain professional boundaries.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe and secure environment for clients and contact emergency responders as needed.
• Provide clients with referrals and information on community programs.
• Enforce program guidelines and policies.
• Deescalate situations and apply conflict resolution techniques.
• Determine client eligibility.
• Conduct initial intake and program orientation for new clients.
• Record data into the HMIS system and maintain daily logs.
