Job summary

Westhab is seeking a Safety Security Officer in the Bronx to protect clients, staff, and property at a homeless shelter. The role supports a 24-hour facility with face‑to‑face relief and mandated overtime, reporting to the Shift Supervisor and Security Manager.

Responsibilities include inspections, access control, incident response, client intake assistance, and thorough logging. NYS Security Guard License and 8‑Hour Annual Certificate required; CPI certification preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• NYS Security Guard License and current 8-Hour Annual Certificate required.
• Fire Guard License for Shelters preferred (F02).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be able to work flexible shifts, weekends, and overtime if necessary.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily inspections of all clients’ rooms.
• Escort clients to appointments as needed.
• Interact with and monitor clients' behavior, maintaining a good rapport and enforcing facility policies.
• Control access at the main entrance by screening all clients and visitors with a magnetometer or x-ray machine.
• Perform Crisis Intervention to de‑escalate and resolve conflicts.
• Make hourly rounds throughout the facility (hallways, stairwells, floors, bathrooms, laundry, kitchen, offices).
• Respond to incidents and coordinate with police, fire and first responders as directed.
• Assist with client intakes and documentation of property.
• Log and manage client property, including storage timelines and removal after retention periods.
• Maintain a clean and organized storage area and complete logs and incident reports.
• Operate and monitor CCTV and alarm systems; perform other duties at the operations desk as needed.
• Support fire safety procedures, evacuations, and related duties.
