Job summary

Westhab in New York City is seeking a Safety Security Officer to protect clients, staff and the shelter property. This full-time role covers all boroughs with 24-hour operations and required face-to-face relief. The position reports to the Shift Supervisor and Security Manager; overtime is mandated.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Prior security experience required.
• Must have NYS Security Guard License and current 8‑Hour Annual Certificate. Fire Guard License for Shelters preferred F02.
• Certified in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily inspections of clients' rooms.
• Escort clients to appointments as needed.
• Monitor clients' behavior and provide excellent customer service.
• Control access at the main entrance using magnetometer or x‑ray to prevent weapons.
• Perform Crisis Intervention to de-escalate incidents and document actions.
• Make hourly rounds throughout the facility.
• Respond to incidents and assist with client intakes.
• Complete logs and incident reports and contact first responders as directed.
• Perform administrative duties at the operations desk and monitor surveillance cameras.
