Job summary

Abacus Staffing is seeking a Full-Time Customer Service Representative in Norfolk, VA. This role supports the City of Norfolk shelter by handling inquiries, processing intakes/adoptions, and performing clerical duties, including basic accounting tasks.

The position requires excellent customer service, the ability to handle cash securely, and familiarity with shelter software. Weekend work and varying shifts are possible; the role is on-site at the Norfolk location.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent experience.
• Experience handling customer inquiries and basic accounting tasks is a plus.
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the first and last point of contact for shelter visitors.
• Answer inquiries via phone and email about shelter services and hours.
• Process animal intakes and adoptions; schedule medical procedures.
• Handle cash and credit payments; maintain account reconciliations.
• Learn shelter management software to manage records and reports.
