Job summary

Speechify is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications in Spokane, WA. You will use Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ where needed to build high-quality software.

You will mentor engineers, drive architectural decisions, and collaborate with product designers to shape feature planning and the long-term Windows roadmap, ensuring accessibility and strong performance for millions of users.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in Windows desktop app development using Windows App SDK/WinUI, C#, XAML; experience with native Windows code (C++, Win32/WinRT/COM) is a plus.
• Deep understanding of Windows app architecture, including interop between managed and native code.
• Proven track record shipping production-quality desktop apps with focus on reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability.
• Strong experience with accessibility APIs on Windows and commitment to accessible software.
• Excellent software engineering fundamentals: OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, multi-threading or async programming.
• Experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, code reviews, and architecture decisions.
• Strong communication skills and ability to drive consensus across cross-functional teams.
• User-centric mindset: delivering polished, intuitive, accessible experiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ when needed.
• Define and enforce best practices for Windows desktop development across the codebase, focusing on performance and cross-version compatibility.
• Drive accessibility efforts: ensure UI controls, keyboard navigation, screen-reader support, and usability for users with disabilities.
• Collaborate with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and stakeholders to shape feature planning and long-term roadmap for Windows platform.
• Identify and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and compatibility problems.
