Job summary

Waymo is seeking a hardware/vehicle structure engineer to guide development of body structures for future projects. You will create 3D CAD layouts and help select materials, working with CAE to validate designs and balancing cost with tooling investments.

You will engage with internal teams and suppliers to optimize production, launch readiness, and shingling of components, with travel up to 10% for domestic/international assignments.

Qualifications

• Experience in vehicle body structures and tooling strategies.
• Participation in car launches and production ramp activities.
• Proven ability to work with suppliers during tooling launches (DFM).
• Ability to drive discussions using benchmark/competitor examples.
• Understanding body assembly sequences and shingling concepts.

Responsibilities

• Guide development of vehicle body structures using stamping, casting, hydroforming.
• Create layouts and master sections in 3D CAD to support part development.
• Recommend materials to meet structural requirements with CAE validation.
• Present multiple design options balancing part price vs tooling
• Collaborate with internal teams and suppliers for future component sourcing.
