Job summary

Ford Motor Company in Long Beach, CA, seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design and architect forward model platform structures 2-3 years before production, owning a portion of the platform and driving design to meet system metrics such as safety, cost, weight and manufacturing feasibility.

The role requires a BS in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science, 5+ years of BIW structures experience, and proficiency with Catia 3dx.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of prior experience in structures design and release engineering.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science is required.
• Experience with BIW components and manufacturing feasibility is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design advanced / pre-program Body-in-White components (stampings, roll forming, extrusions).
• Coordinate with stakeholders to meet structures functional requirements and timing.
• Prepare BOM, cost, weight, and assembly flow documents.
• Create 3D package studies to resolve system incompatibilities.
• Prepare benchmarking and decision matrices; present findings to peers.
