Job summary

Manulife is seeking a Senior Underwriting Consultant for a remote role open to any location in the continental US. You will evaluate highly complex applications, guide junior colleagues, and ensure underwriting policies are upheld while maintaining excellent client relationships.

The position requires strong knowledge of underwriting, risk assessment, and John Hancock’s businesses, with the ability to work independently and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or business equivalent.
• 7+ years underwriting experience or exposure.

Responsibilities

• Identify and address workflow and system issues beyond standard underwriting duties.
• Negotiate and manage time and resources to meet deadlines.
• Provide training and guidance to junior underwriters.
• Audit underwriting decisions and compliance with guidelines and policies.
• Audit medical record summaries for guideline adherence.
• Support management with risk assessment research.
• Process underwriting appeals and complaints.
• Review fraud referrals and conduct book of business reviews.
• Collaborate with team to mentor colleagues.
