Job summary

Manulife is seeking a Senior Underwriting Consultant to evaluate high-impact applications and guide junior colleagues. The role is remote and open to the continental US, with responsibilities across auditing, risk assessment, and process improvements.

The incumbent will work independently, negotiate deadlines, train others, and manage the most complex underwriting files, while upholding underwriting policies and guidelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree or equivalent in business or related field.
• 7+ years underwriting experience preferred.
• Strong underwriting knowledge and familiarity with John Hancock products.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to guide junior colleagues and manage audits.

Responsibilities

• Identify and provide solutions to workflow and systems issues.
• Negotiate and manage time/resources to meet deadlines.
• Train and mentor junior underwriters.
• Audit underwriting decisions and documentation for guidelines.
• Review medical records to ensure compliance with guidelines.
• Manage complex underwriting cases end-to-end.
• Serve as SME for juniors and management.
• Handle formal underwriting appeals and complaints.
• Maintain relationships in a self-directed team.
