Job summary

Argo Group, an underwriter of specialty insurance, seeks a seasoned production underwriter. The role focuses on marketing, underwriting and processing assigned lines, with on-site work in NYC. You will build broker relations, manage submissions and contribute to special projects while mentoring staff.

Qualified candidates have a bachelor’s degree, 5+ years underwriting experience, and strong negotiation and data analysis skills. Travel up to 20% is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or equivalent combination of experience and education.
• A commitment to ongoing professional development through continuing education and self-development.
• IIA and CPCU designations strongly preferred.
• Minimum of five years underwriting experience with authority.
• Strong customer-service focus and a drive to exceed client expectations.
• Proven relationships with professional liability brokers in the Central U.S.
• Strong negotiation skills with favorable outcome history.
• Flexibility and adaptability to change with execution focus.
• Proven track record of delivering results.
• Excellent ability to collect, analyze and translate data in underwriting decisions.
• Advanced skills with Excel, Outlook and Word; willingness to travel ~20%.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and analyze new business and renewal submissions for the assigned area.
• Support marketing initiatives and ensure clear communication of products to brokers.
• Develop broker relations and establish new relationships in targeted territories.
• Participate in client and broker meetings.
• Develop and maintain a submission pipeline to meet production and mix objectives.
• Leverage market contacts to source business, gather market intelligence and cross-sell other products.
