Job summary

Covenant Logistics is seeking a Department Manager II to link operations between drivers and customers across multiple locations. You will oversee a department, coach drivers, and coordinate with customers to maximize fleet utilization and reduce costs.

The role requires strong leadership, DOT knowledge, and the ability to navigate a fast-paced environment, with a focus on process improvement and employee development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
• Knowledge of DOT regulations and Driver HOS.
• Leadership experience required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage Department for multiple locations and/or additional customer specific responsibilities.
• Manage Dedicated Fleet of Professional Drivers with authority to take actions and/or make recommendations.
• Monitor, direct and/or dispatch all transportation activities within the assigned department.
• Responsible for Service Failures (Driver, Dispatch, Planning), Communication, Equipment, Utilization, Driver Turnover, Fuel, Safety, Maintenance.
• Maintain Customer Relations through excellent communication and client visits.
• Maintain positive and productive communication with drivers to deliver on time, prevent service failures, and reduce turnover.
• Receive ETAs and PTAs and manage throughout the day.
• Communicate expectations for performance, conduct, and safety, and provide ongoing feedback for the professional driver.
