Job summary

Fehr & Peers in Phoenix seeks a Transportation Design Engineer to lead evaluation, design, and construction document generation for diverse communities. You will coordinate with complete streets teams, engage with clients, and mentor staff while applying best practices from NACTO and related guidelines.

The role emphasizes project management, field work, and delivering safe, feasible concepts, PS&E packages, and designs for complete streets, bikeways, signals, signing, and lighting, with a focus

Qualifications

• 3-8 years of experience in transportation engineering.
• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in related fields as listed.
• Currently hold or plan to hold a PE license.
• Experience applying Caltrans, MUTCD, and AASHTO design standards.
• Familiarity with signing, striping, and traffic signal plans.
• Safety countermeasure selection and design.
• Experience leading proposals and nurturing client relationships.
• Mentoring and training staff; openness to new tools.

Responsibilities

• Leading and managing tasks for engineering and planning studies.
• Performing field work such as site review and support during construction.
• Preparing conceptual designs that are accurate, feasible, and visually engaging.
• Preparing PS&E for transportation projects including complete streets, bikeways, signals, signing/striping, and lighting.
• Managing direct client interaction and community engagement.
• Marketing and bringing in new projects by nurturing client relationships and preparing proposals.
• Mentoring colleagues and receiving mentorship from senior staff.
• Learning and adopting new tools and technologies to enhance day-to-day work.
