Job summary

Fehr & Peers is seeking a Transportation Design Engineer in California to lead the evaluation, design, and coordination of transportation projects. You will generate conceptual designs and PS&E packages, collaborate with planning teams and clients, and mentor staff while delivering projects that align with best practices from NACTO and related standards.

You will manage tasks, oversee staff, and balance client engagement with technical excellence, applying Caltrans and AASHTO standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in transportation, civil or electrical engineering, urban and regional planning, or related major
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required or in progress
• Experience applying Caltrans, MUTCD, and AASHTO design standards on diverse projects
• Familiarity with signing, striping, and traffic signal plan development and review
• Interest in mentoring staff and leading client-focused proposals

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage engineering and planning studies
• Conduct field work and provide support during construction
• Prepare conceptual designs that are accurate and visually engaging
• Prepare PS&E documents for transportation projects including complete streets and signals
• Manage client interactions and community engagement
• Support business development through proposals and interviews
• Mentor colleagues and learn new tools and techniques while upholding professional judgment
