Job summary

Fehr & Peers seeks a Transportation Design Engineer to lead design studies, conceptual layouts, and PS&E for streets and mobility projects in the Long Beach area. You will collaborate with staff across planning and engineering teams, engage communities, and manage project tasks while ensuring quality deliverables.

The role emphasizes mentoring, adopting new tools, and maintaining professional judgment in line with Caltrans, MUTCD, and AASHTO standards to advance urban transportation solutions.

Qualifications

• 3–8 years of transportation engineering experience.
• Degree in transportation, civil, electrical engineering, urban planning or related field.
• PE license or working toward licensure.
• Experience applying Caltrans, MUTCD, and AASHTO standards.
• Ability to prepare signing, striping, and traffic signal plans.
• Experience leading proposals and client relationships.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage tasks for engineering and planning studies.
• Perform field work and support during construction.
• Prepare conceptual designs that are accurate and engaging.
• Develop PS&E for transportation projects including complete streets and bikeways.
• Engage with clients and the public through community outreach.
• Market and bring in new projects via proposals and interviews.
• Mentor colleagues and learn from senior staff.
