Job summary

BKF Engineers is seeking a Senior Project Engineer with expertise in civil transportation design to join our California team, based in San Jose. Hybrid or remote work from Redwood City or Pleasanton offices may be an option for the right candidate.

The role targets a California-licensed P.E. with 5+ years of experience, focused on leading technical delivery, mentoring junior staff, and delivering publicly funded roadway and multimodal projects.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited program required.
• EIT certification required; PE licensure preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of transportation projects including roadways, roundabouts, and corridors.
• Organize workflows, set design criteria, and delegate tasks to junior staff.
• Make decisions on project elements and consult with senior leadership on complex issues.
• Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and environmental documentation.
• Develop and review grading, drainage, and stormwater management plans.
• Develop and review construction specifications and quantity takeoffs.
• Support QA/QC and identify out-of-scope services.
• Mentor junior engineers and coordinate sub-consultant work across teams.
• Attend meetings with clients and stakeholders; track action items.
• Assist in scheduling, permitting, and construction as needed.
• Contribute to proposal development and cross-sell BKF's services.
• Manage assigned project elements within budgets and timelines.
