Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Transmission Engineer to develop world-class designs for new, altered, and redeveloped high-voltage transmission projects, including underground and overhead lines. You will work with the project team through design and construction, adapting plans to budgets and client needs.

The role requires ABET-accredited Civil Engineering or related degree with 3+ years of transmission experience; FE/ EIT is preferred.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Civil Eng degree with 3 years transmission experience
• Bachelors in Civil Eng Tech with FE exam and 3 years transmission experience
• Masters in Civil Eng with 2 years transmission experience
• Strong knowledge of civil/structural techniques
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Analytical, quantitative problem-solving skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Office
• Proficient with CAD/engineering software and transmission tools
• EIT certification preferred

Responsibilities

• Perform transmission design from concept through design completion
• Modify/review transmission components per project manager needs
• Prepare transmission equipment specs, RFQs, data sheets, bid summaries
• Conduct conductor selection studies, lightning and grounding calculations
• Ensure compliance with NESC, NERC, FERC and regional standards
• Apply standard transmission engineering concepts and codes
• Research data, compile reports, write specifications
• Update drawings in CAD software
• Prepare client presentations and contract administration data
• Perform field inspections and measurements
• Comply with policies and standards
• Other duties as assigned
