Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Transmission Engineer to design high‑voltage transmission projects and support across multiple locations, including Wallingford, CT and Newton, MA. You will lead design from concept to completion, adjust plans for budgets, and ensure compliance with NESC, NERC, and FERC standards.

The role requires ABET‑accredited education with 3+ years of transmission experience, strong CAD software skills, and the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in a related engineering field and 3 years of transmission experience.
• Alternative: FE certification with 3 years transmission experience.
• Master's degree in Civil Engineering with 2 years transmission experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform transmission design from concept through design completion.
• Modify and review transmission components to meet project needs.
• Prepare equipment specifications, RFQs, and bid summaries.
• Conduct conductor selection studies and grounding calculations.
• Compile calculations for electrical clearances per codes.
• Prepare communications on NERC/FERC and regional standards.
• Update drawings using CAD software and review shop drawings.
• Contribute to client presentations and contract administration.
