Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Transmission Engineer to support licensed engineers in delivering world‑class designs for high voltage transmission projects. You will assist from concept through construction, adapting plans to budget and client needs while working with CAD tools and project teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
• Internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of civil/structural engineering principles and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work analytically in a problem‑solving environment and think critically.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and CAD tools.

Responsibilities

• Assist in transmission line design from concept through design completion.
• Assist in modifying production drawings for high voltage lines (69-500kV).
• Help design line components per project needs and generate plan/profile drawings.
• Apply core civil/structural engineering concepts in project work.
• Assist with data collection, studies, and reports for project managers.
• Update drawings and verify corrections in CAD software.
• Support client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration.
• Perform field inspections, measurements, and calculations.
