Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Transmission Engineer to join project teams delivering world‑class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments across underground and overhead high‑voltage transmission lines. You will guide the design through conception to completion, coordinate with project managers, and apply NESC, NERC, and FERC standards while using CAD and other engineering tools.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree required.
• FE exam completed with 3 years transmission engineering experience.
• Master's in Civil Engineering with 2 years transmission experience.
• Strong knowledge of standard civil/structural engineering techniques.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Proficient CAD and design software.
• EIT Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform transmission design from concept through design completion.
• Modify and review transmission components per project needs.
• Prepare transmission equipment specs, RFQs, bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
• Conduct economic conductor selection studies and grounding calculations.
• Compile calculations for NESC and other applicable codes.
• Prepare communications of NERC/FERC and regional requirements.
• Update drawings in CAD software.
• Compile information for client presentations and contract administration.
• Perform field inspections and measurements.
• Other duties as assigned.
